Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meningococcal polysaccharide (serogroups A, C, W, and Y) tetanus toxoid conjugate vaccine is an active immunizing agent used to prevent invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y. The vaccine contains purified capsular polysaccharides from these four serogroups of N. meningitidis individually conjugated to a carrier protein—tetanus toxoid—which enhances the immune response by promoting T-cell dependent immunity. This results in the production of protective antibodies against the targeted serogroups. It does not protect against other groups such as group B. The primary indication is prevention of invasive meningococcal disease including conditions like bacterial meningitis and septicemia[1][4][5][8]. Major developers include Sanofi (MenQuadfi), GlaxoSmithKline (Menveo), and previously Sanofi for Menactra.
