Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meningococcal polysaccharide a + c is an inactivated bacterial vaccine composed of purified capsular polysaccharides from *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A and C. It is used for active immunization to prevent invasive diseases such as meningitis and septicemia caused by these specific serogroups. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the immune system to produce bactericidal antibodies against the capsular antigens of *N. meningitidis* groups A and C, thereby providing protection against infection[5]. This type of vaccine does not contain live bacteria and cannot cause disease[3]. It has been used in outbreak control, travel medicine, military populations, and regions with high incidence rates.
