Overview
MenVeo + Gardasil 9 refers to the co-administration or sequential administration of the 9-valent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and the quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine as part of the KEN SHE (Kenya Single-dose HPV-vaccine Efficacy) clinical trial. This Phase 4 study, led by Massachusetts General Hospital in collaboration with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), evaluated whether a single dose of Gardasil 9 could effectively prevent persistent HPV infection, a precursor to cervical cancer. Gardasil 9 is a recombinant vaccine that utilizes virus-like particles (VLPs) of the L1 capsid protein from nine HPV types (6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58) to induce neutralizing antibodies. MenVeo is a conjugate vaccine targeting Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y, using capsular polysaccharides conjugated to a CRM197 carrier protein. In the trial design, MenVeo served as an active control to maintain participant blinding while providing a health benefit to the control group.
