Overview

meropenem + linezolid is a combination antibiotic regimen consisting of the carbapenem meropenem and the oxazolidinone linezolid. This combination is utilized in the treatment of severe infectious diseases in pediatric patients, where it provides broad-spectrum coverage against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens, including multi-drug resistant strains. Meropenem acts by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Linezolid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit. Beijing Children's Hospital has conducted population pharmacokinetic studies (such as NCT02447458) to optimize the dosing of this combination in children with severe infections and meningitis.
