Overview

Meropenem + pralubactam is a fixed-dose combination of two agents: meropenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic, and pralubactam, a novel beta-lactamase inhibitor. Meropenem exerts its bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins. Pralubactam functions by inhibiting serine and metallo-beta-lactamases, thereby preventing the hydrolysis of meropenem and restoring its activity against resistant Gram-negative bacterial strains. This combination is being developed primarily to address multidrug-resistant Gram-negative infections where traditional carbapenems may fail due to beta-lactamase-mediated resistance.
