Mionem-S is a fixed-dose combination antibacterial agent developed by Miotic Pharmaceuticals, consisting of the broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic meropenem and the beta-lactamase inhibitor sulbactam. Meropenem functions by penetrating bacterial cell walls and binding with high affinity to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis and leading to cell lysis. Sulbactam is a penicillanic acid sulfone that acts as an irreversible inhibitor of various beta-lactamases, particularly those produced by Gram-negative organisms like *Acinetobacter baumannii*. By neutralizing these enzymes, sulbactam prevents the degradation of meropenem, restoring and enhancing its activity against multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens. This combination is typically indicated for severe infections such as hospital-acquired pneumonia, complicated intra-abdominal infections, and septicemia.
