Overview

Mesalamine + Bacillus clausii is an investigational combination therapy being evaluated by Tanta University for the management of ulcerative colitis. Mesalamine (5-aminosalicylic acid) is a small molecule anti-inflammatory agent that acts locally on the colonic mucosa to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and leukotrienes. Bacillus clausii is a spore-forming probiotic bacterium that helps restore intestinal microbiota balance and may enhance the anti-inflammatory effects of mesalamine. This combination is specifically being studied in patients with ulcerative colitis in remission to evaluate its role in maintaining remission and modulating the gut microbiota.
