Overview

Mesalazine + tripterygium glycosides is a combination therapy consisting of mesalazine (also known as mesalamine), an aminosalicylate anti-inflammatory drug, and tripterygium glycosides, a group of bioactive compounds extracted from the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F. Mesalazine acts primarily in the gastrointestinal tract to reduce inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis, interfering with leukocyte migration, and scavenging free radicals. It is mainly used for the treatment and maintenance of remission in ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease[6][1]. Tripterygium glycosides possess immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory properties through multiple mechanisms including inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-α), suppression of NF-κB signaling pathways, reduction in immune cell activation, induction of T cell apoptosis, and modulation of B cell function[3][2]. The combination aims to leverage both local anti-inflammatory effects (mesalazine) and systemic immunomodulation (tripterygium glycosides) for enhanced efficacy in autoimmune or inflammatory diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease or rheumatoid arthritis.
