Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (MSC-exosomes) are nano-sized extracellular vesicles secreted by human mesenchymal stem cells, containing a complex cargo of proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids that mediate intercellular communication. Developed by Guangzhou Bio-gene Technology Co., Ltd., these exosomes are being investigated as a cell-free regenerative therapy for androgenetic alopecia. The treatment is administered via local scalp injections and is hypothesized to promote hair growth by delivering bioactive molecules that stimulate dermal papilla cell proliferation and induce the transition of hair follicles from the telogen (resting) phase to the anagen (growth) phase. A Phase 1 clinical trial (NCT05751486) has been initiated to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this biological approach in subjects with hair loss.
