Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) developed by Guangzhou Bio-gene Technology are an investigational cell therapy being evaluated for the treatment of refractory primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). MSCs are multipotent stromal cells known for their potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. In the context of ITP, an autoimmune disorder characterized by low platelet counts due to immune-mediated destruction and impaired production, MSCs are thought to restore immune homeostasis. They achieve this by suppressing the activation of T and B lymphocytes, promoting the expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs), and modulating the cytokine environment to favor an anti-inflammatory state. This therapeutic approach aims to reduce platelet clearance and potentially enhance platelet production in patients who have failed standard treatments.
