This is an investigational cell therapy developed by the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas (IVIC) for the treatment of pseudarthrosis, also known as nonunion bone fractures. The therapy utilizes autologous or allogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSCs) as the active biological component. These cells are cultured, seeded onto a collagen scaffold, and then incorporated into a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) clot. During a surgical procedure, this composite is implanted directly into the site of the bone defect after the removal of fibrotic tissue. The mechanism of action involves the MSCs' ability to differentiate into osteoblasts and secrete paracrine factors that stimulate bone tissue regeneration and healing in fractures that have failed to unite through conventional orthopedic methods.
