LifeStem is developing a mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy specifically designed to treat doxorubicin-induced cardiac dysfunction, with a focus on patients with diabetes. Doxorubicin is a potent chemotherapeutic agent whose clinical use is often limited by dose-dependent cardiotoxicity, a risk that is significantly exacerbated by the metabolic disturbances associated with diabetes. This cell therapy approach leverages the regenerative, immunomodulatory, and paracrine signaling properties of MSCs. These cells are known to migrate to sites of myocardial injury and secrete a variety of bioactive factors (the secretome) that promote tissue repair, reduce oxidative stress, and modulate inflammatory responses. By addressing the underlying mechanisms of myocardial damage, the therapy aims to preserve or restore cardiac function in high-risk oncology patients. The program is currently identified as a publication-noted research initiative within LifeStem's pipeline.
