Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stromal cells being investigated by Nanjing Medical University for the treatment of kidney fibrosis. These cells possess the ability to home to sites of tissue injury and exert therapeutic effects through immunomodulation and the secretion of paracrine factors, including growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines. In the context of progressive kidney disease, MSC therapy is hypothesized to protect renal function, alleviate tissue injury, and reduce the decompensated conditions that lead to end-stage renal failure. The treatment is typically evaluated as an adjunct to conventional medical therapy.
