Mesenchymal stem cells (umbilical cord) is a cell-based biologic therapy derived from human umbilical cord tissue (hUC-MSCs), currently under development by Tianjin Angsai Cell Gene Engineering. This therapeutic platform utilizes the innate immunomodulatory and regenerative capabilities of mesenchymal stem cells to treat a variety of inflammatory and degenerative conditions. The cells function primarily through paracrine signaling, secreting factors that modulate the immune response by regulating key cytokines such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α), and Interleukin-10 (IL-10). Additionally, hUC-MSCs are thought to promote tissue repair by stimulating neurogenesis and angiogenesis. The product is currently in a Phase I clinical trial for acute ischemic stroke and has received IND approvals in China for other indications, including refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), chronic acute liver failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and traumatic spinal cord injury.
