mesenchymal stem cells-Nanjing Medical University-liver cirrhosis is an investigational combination cell therapy being developed by Nanjing Medical University for the treatment of decompensated liver cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease. The therapy involves the co-administration of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and regulatory T cells (Tregs) via peripheral vein infusion. MSCs provide tissue repair and regenerative support, partially through the secretion of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), while Tregs modulate the immune environment and enhance MSC efficacy via TGF-β and indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) signaling. This individualized medicine approach is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials to assess safety and efficacy in improving liver function and reducing injury severity.
