messenger RNA (collagen VII) is an mRNA-based therapy being developed by Factor Bioscience for the treatment of dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB). The therapy utilizes Factor's proprietary ToRNAdo™ Nucleic-Acid Delivery System to deliver mRNA encoding the collagen type VII (COL7A1) protein directly to the patient's skin. This approach aims to restore the expression of functional collagen VII, which is defective or absent in patients with DEB, thereby improving the structural integrity of the dermal-epidermal junction. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development and is described as an in vivo mRNA editing modality that aims to restore protein expression in the skin.
