Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sanalgin Plus is a fixed-dose combination drug containing the non-opioid analgesic metamizole (dipyrone), the musculotropic spasmolytic pitofenone, and the anticholinergic agent fenpiverinium. Developed by Sanjivani Parenteral, it is formulated as an injection for the short-term treatment of acute, moderate-to-severe pain associated with smooth muscle spasms of the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, urinary tract, or uterus (such as renal colic, biliary colic, and dysmenorrhea). Metamizole acts primarily by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system, while pitofenone exerts a direct papaverine-like myotropic relaxing effect on smooth muscle, and fenpiverinium provides additional anticholinergic (antimuscarinic) spasmolytic activity. Together, these components act synergistically to relieve both pain and muscle spasms.
