Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Metformin** is an orally administered biguanide antihyperglycemic small molecule that lowers blood glucose primarily by reducing hepatic glucose production and improving peripheral insulin sensitivity. It is approved for type 2 diabetes mellitus. In the University of California, Davis-sponsored NCT02339168 study, a liquid metformin hydrochloride formulation supplied by Aspargo Labs was evaluated with separately administered enzalutamide in a completed Phase 1 study in castration-resistant prostate cancer; the trial assessed safety and the appropriate metformin dose for the combination.
