Overview

DW6013 is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) sustained-release (SR) small molecule therapy being developed by Dong Wha Pharm for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It consists of metformin, a biguanide that suppresses hepatic glucose production and enhances peripheral insulin sensitivity, and dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that promotes urinary glucose excretion by blocking renal reabsorption. The sustained-release formulation is designed to maintain therapeutic plasma concentrations over an extended period, potentially improving gastrointestinal tolerability and patient adherence compared to immediate-release versions. DW6013 is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation to assess its pharmacokinetic profile and bioequivalence compared to the individual components.
