Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**metformin + dehydroepiandrosterone** is a combination of two agents: metformin, a biguanide oral antihyperglycemic agent, and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), an endogenous steroid and precursor of sex hormones. This combination has been studied as an adjuvant therapy for reproductive health, particularly in women with poor ovarian response during assisted reproductive technology (ART) cycles. Mechanistically, metformin improves insulin sensitivity and modulates cellular oxidative stress, while DHEA is thought to enhance ovarian response to stimulation through androgen-mediated pathways. Together, metformin + DHEA may synergistically improve oocyte yield, clinical pregnancy, and live birth rates for poor ovarian responders undergoing IVF[5]. Additionally, preclinical data suggest both compounds can synergistically diminish T-cell proliferation and regulate T-cell oxidative stress and apoptosis through distinct pathways[3][6]. Metformin + DHEA may also partially rescue metabolic dysfunction and oocyte quality when hyperandrogenism is induced[7].
