Overview
A combination therapy consisting of metformin and megestrol acetate. Metformin is a biguanide antihyperglycemic agent primarily used for type 2 diabetes, while megestrol acetate is a progestin used to treat breast and uterine cancers. When combined, they show enhanced efficacy for treating endometrial hyperplasia and early-stage endometrial cancer, particularly in fertility-sparing approaches. Metformin may enhance the effects of megestrol acetate through multiple mechanisms including AMPK activation, modulation of progesterone receptor expression, and inhibition of cell proliferation pathways.
