Drug intelligence / Profile preview
metformin + rosuvastatin is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapy developed by Hanmi Pharmaceutical for the management of comorbid type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia (dyslipidemia). Metformin is a biguanide antihyperglycemic agent that lowers blood glucose levels primarily by decreasing hepatic glucose production and increasing peripheral insulin sensitivity through the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Rosuvastatin is a potent HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) that reduces cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver, leading to decreased levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides. This combination is designed to improve patient compliance and therapeutic outcomes in individuals requiring simultaneous control of glucose and lipid levels, which are frequently co-occurring conditions in metabolic syndrome.
