Overview
Metformin + semaglutide is a combination therapy consisting of two distinct pharmaceutical agents used primarily for the management of type 2 diabetes and, increasingly, for weight loss in overweight or obese individuals. Metformin is a biguanide that decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon secretion, slows gastric emptying, and reduces appetite. The combination has been shown to significantly improve glycemic control (lowering fasting blood glucose, postprandial glucose, and HbA1c), reduce body weight and BMI, improve lipid profiles, and decrease insulin resistance compared to metformin alone[1][2][3]. Both drugs are prescription-only medications.
