Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of methotrexate, a folate antagonist with anti-inflammatory properties, and maraviroc, a CCR5 antagonist. This combination was investigated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, with maraviroc added to background methotrexate therapy. While the combination showed no drug-drug interactions and was generally well-tolerated, clinical trials demonstrated that adding maraviroc to methotrexate failed to improve signs and symptoms in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis.
