Overview

Methotrimeprazine + perphenazine is a combination of two phenothiazine antipsychotics. Methotrimeprazine, also known as Nozinan or Levoprome, is used in the management of psychosis (particularly schizophrenia) and manic phases of bipolar disorder. It acts primarily by antagonizing dopamine receptors in the brain and also binds to 5HT2 (serotonin) receptors, contributing to its antipsychotic effects[3][8]. Perphenazine, known under brand names such as Trilafon, is used for treating schizophrenia and for controlling severe nausea and vomiting in adults. Its mechanism involves antagonism at dopamine D1 and D2 receptors—reducing abnormal excitement in the brain—and it also blocks alpha adrenergic receptors[1][4][5]. Both drugs are classified as first-generation (typical) antipsychotics.
