Methoxsalen + methylprednisolone is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents, each with distinct mechanisms and indications. Methoxsalen is a naturally occurring furocoumarin and photosensitizer used primarily in conjunction with ultraviolet A (UVA) light in PUVA therapy to treat conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. It works by intercalating into DNA and forming cross-links upon UVA exposure, thereby inhibiting the proliferation of abnormal skin cells[1][4][7]. Methylprednisolone is a synthetic corticosteroid that mimics endogenous glucocorticoids produced by the adrenal glands. It exerts potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects by modulating gene expression through the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to decreased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Methylprednisolone is indicated for various inflammatory and autoimmune disorders including arthritis, severe allergies, asthma, lupus, ulcerative colitis, certain cancers, and skin diseases[2][3][5].
