Methyl 2,5-dihydroxycinnamate is a small molecule compound classified as a cinnamate ester and the methyl ester of 2,5-dihydroxycinnamic acid. It is primarily studied for its antioxidant properties and has been investigated in various research contexts including cosmetics (for skin protection), food preservation (as an antioxidant preservative), and pharmaceuticals. In drug development research, it has shown potential anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Mechanistically, it acts as a competitive inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor-associated tyrosine kinase (EGFR kinase), impeding EGFR autophosphorylation and v-abl tyrosine kinase activation. It can induce apoptosis in mouse thymocytes and inhibit the G2/M phase of the cell cycle[3][5][6]. Methyl 2,5-dihydroxycinnamate is considered experimental with no approved therapeutic indications.
