Methyl N-\[(2',4'-difluoro–4–hydroxy–5–iodobiphenyl–3–yl)carbonyl\]-beta-alaninate is a synthetic small molecule compound with the molecular formula C₁₇H₁₄F₂INO₄ and a molecular weight of approximately 461.20 g/mol. It is also known by the code name IFA. The compound has been studied as an experimental agent and is structurally related to iododiflunisal derivatives. Crystallographic studies have shown that it binds to transthyretin (TTR), a plasma protein involved in thyroid hormone transport and implicated in amyloid diseases such as familial amyloid polyneuropathy. By binding to TTR, this molecule acts as an inhibitor of TTR amyloid fibril formation, potentially stabilizing the native tetrameric form of TTR and preventing pathological aggregation[1][7]. Its primary mechanism appears to be through direct interaction with transthyretin at its thyroxine-binding sites.
