Overview
VVP100X is a fixed-dose combination drug candidate developed by Verva Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It consists of methyldopa (VVP808), a centrally acting alpha-2 adrenergic agonist traditionally used for hypertension, and metformin, a standard-of-care biguanide. The combination aims to leverage methyldopa's potential as an insulin sensitizer—acting through a novel mechanism involving the inhibition of the sympathetic nervous system's influence on metabolic tissues—alongside metformin's glucose-lowering effects. Development was primarily focused on improving glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes, with potential applications in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Following Verva Pharmaceuticals' cessation of active operations, development of the asset appears to have been discontinued.
