This is a combination therapy consisting of three agents—methylene blue, vitamin C (ascorbic acid), and N-acetyl cysteine. The combination has been studied primarily as an adjunctive treatment for critically ill patients with COVID-19 and in experimental models of poisoning (e.g., aluminum phosphide intoxication). Methylene blue acts as a redox agent that can convert methemoglobin back to hemoglobin, improving oxygen delivery. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that reduces oxidative stress and supports immune function. N-acetyl cysteine replenishes intracellular glutathione, providing antioxidant effects and reducing inflammation. Together, these agents are proposed to interrupt the cycle of oxidative stress, nitric oxide overproduction, and cytokine storm seen in severe inflammatory states such as critical COVID-19[1][6][8]. The combination has shown some promise in small clinical studies for reducing ICU stay duration and improving survival rates without significant adverse effects[1][6][8]. This therapy is not FDA-approved as a fixed-dose pharmaceutical product but uses components individually approved for other indications.
