Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of two uterotonic agents used to prevent and control postpartum hemorrhage. Methylergonovine is an ergot alkaloid that acts directly on the smooth muscle of the uterus to increase tone, rate, and amplitude of rhythmic contractions. Oxytocin stimulates uterine contractions and helps the uterus return to its normal size after childbirth. The combination has an additive or synergistic effect in preventing postpartum hemorrhage compared to oxytocin alone.
