Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs, methylphenidate and paroxetine. Methylphenidate is a central nervous system stimulant primarily used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. It acts as a norepinephrine–dopamine reuptake inhibitor, increasing the synaptic concentrations of these neurotransmitters in the brain, thereby improving alertness, attention, and impulse control[7][8]. Paroxetine is an antidepressant belonging to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class. It increases serotonin levels in the brain by inhibiting its reuptake into neurons and is indicated for major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders (including generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety), panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause[5][6]. The combination may be considered in patients with comorbid ADHD and depression or anxiety disorders; however, coadministration can increase plasma concentrations of SSRIs due to pharmacokinetic interactions[2]. Clinical studies suggest that combined use does not significantly increase adverse events compared to monotherapy but should be monitored for potential risks such as serotonin syndrome or increased side effects[3].
