Methylphenidate + reboxetine is a combination therapy being investigated by the University of Haifa for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This pharmacological approach combines methylphenidate, a central nervous system stimulant that inhibits the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, with reboxetine, a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). The treatment rationale is based on the hypothesis that impaired attentional and sensory processing, mediated by dopaminergic and noradrenergic pathways, contributes significantly to PTSD symptoms such as re-experiencing, avoidance, and hyperarousal. By dual-targeting these neurotransmitter systems, the therapy aims to improve cognitive control and emotional regulation. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT05133804) involving adults with PTSD.
