methylphenidate + risperidone

This is a combination therapy of two pharmaceutical drugs—methylphenidate and risperidone—used primarily in child and adolescent psychiatry. Methylphenidate is a central nervous system stimulant that acts as a dopamine-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, commonly prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic that antagonizes dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, irritability associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and conduct disorders. The combination has been studied for comorbid ADHD with conduct disorder or disruptive behavior disorders (DBD), especially when monotherapy is insufficient. Clinical reports suggest the bitherapy can reduce symptoms of ADHD, conduct disorder, sleep disturbances, and anxiety in children; however, it carries risks such as increased extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) including dyskinesia or movement-related side effects[1][4][7]. The benefit/risk ratio may be favorable in select pediatric populations but requires careful monitoring.
