metronidazole + clarithromycin + ciprofloxacin + lansoprazole

This drug combination is an empirical regimen consisting of three antibiotics—metronidazole, clarithromycin, and ciprofloxacin—alongside the proton pump inhibitor lansoprazole. Developed by King's College Hospital NHS Trust, it was evaluated in a Phase II clinical trial for patients with early-stage, non-progressive chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The therapeutic rationale is based on the hypothesis that CLL may be induced or maintained by chronic antigenic stimulation from occult bacterial infections (such as Helicobacter pylori or other persistent pathogens). By eradicating these potential bacterial triggers, the regimen aims to reduce the leukemic cell burden or stabilize the disease. The trial (NCT01001156) was ultimately terminated due to poor recruitment.
