Overview
Metronidazole + diltiazem is a combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of acute anal fissures. This combination leverages the calcium channel blocking properties of diltiazem to relax smooth muscles in the anal sphincter, while metronidazole provides antimicrobial activity against anaerobic bacteria that may cause subclinical infection in the anal fissure region. Clinical studies have shown that this combination therapy provides more rapid pain relief, improved healing rates, and reduced need for surgery compared to diltiazem alone.
