Overview
Metronidazole + fenbufen is an oral fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product developed and manufactured by Jiangsu Shenhua Pharmaceutical. It combines the nitroimidazole antibiotic metronidazole with the propionic acid derivative non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) fenbufen. Metronidazole provides potent antibacterial activity against anaerobic bacteria, which are common pathogens in oral infections, by disrupting DNA synthesis and causing strand breakage. Fenbufen acts as a prodrug for biphenylacetic acid, which inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2) to provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory relief. This combination is specifically indicated for the treatment of various odontogenic infections and inflammatory conditions, including periodontitis, gingivitis, and pericoronitis, where both bacterial eradication and symptom management are required.
