Drug intelligence / Profile preview
metronidazole + neomycin sulfate + nystatin is a fixed-dose combination anti-infective therapy formulated as vaginal ovules for the treatment of mixed vaginal infections. Developed and manufactured by Antibiotice, it combines the antimicrobial properties of three distinct agents to provide broad-spectrum coverage. Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole that targets anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by causing DNA strand breakage. Neomycin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis in aerobic bacteria by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. Nystatin is a polyene antifungal that binds to ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane, leading to increased permeability and cell death. This combination is primarily indicated for bacterial vaginosis, non-specific vaginitis, and vulvovaginal candidiasis.
