Overview
**Metronidazole + nystatin** is a fixed-dose intravaginal anti-infective combination containing the nitroimidazole antibacterial and antiprotozoal agent metronidazole and the polyene antifungal nystatin. Metronidazole is reduced within susceptible anaerobic organisms and *Trichomonas vaginalis* to reactive metabolites that damage DNA, while nystatin binds fungal-membrane ergosterol and disrupts membrane integrity. Marketed vaginal ovules such as Flagystatin contain metronidazole 500 mg plus nystatin 100,000 IU and are used for mixed vaginal infections, including infections involving *T. vaginalis* and *Candida albicans*.
