Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Metronidazole + nystatin + dexamethasone is a fixed-dose combination drug used primarily for the local treatment of gynecological infections, particularly mixed bacterial and fungal vaginal infections. Metronidazole is an antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent that inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis, targeting anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. Nystatin is an antifungal agent that binds to sterols in fungal cell membranes, increasing membrane permeability and causing cell death. Dexamethasone is a synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and immunosuppressive properties; it reduces the formation and activity of inflammatory mediators such as histamine, kinins, and prostaglandins. The combination provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial coverage along with symptomatic relief from inflammation[1][3][5].
