Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Metronidazole + piperacillin is a combination antibiotic therapy used to treat serious mixed aerobic-anaerobic bacterial infections. Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antibiotic effective against anaerobic bacteria, while piperacillin is a semisynthetic penicillin with activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic bacteria. This combination provides broad-spectrum coverage for polymicrobial infections, particularly intra-abdominal infections, gynecologic infections, and other serious infections where both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria are likely to be present.
