Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of two antibiotics - metronidazole (a nitroimidazole antibiotic effective against anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites) and rifampin (also called rifampicin) is a bactericidal antibiotic that inhibits bacterial RNA synthesis. This combination has shown synergistic effects in eliminating persistent bacterial populations, particularly dormant Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and has been studied for treatment of tuberculosis and as part of broader antibiotic regimens for hidradenitis suppurativa.
