Overview

Camino Pharma is developing a small molecule negative allosteric modulator (NAM) targeting the metabotropic glutamate receptor 2 (mGlu2) for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression. The mechanism of action is designed to mimic the rapid-acting antidepressant effects of ketamine by modulating glutamatergic neurotransmission, specifically by reducing the inhibitory effect of mGlu2 autoreceptors to increase glutamate release in the prefrontal cortex. This approach aims to provide the therapeutic benefits of ketamine without its associated dissociative, psychotomimetic, or addictive side effects. The program is currently in the discovery and preclinical stages of development.
