Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Miconazole Lauriad is a 50 mg muco-adhesive buccal tablet developed by Vectans Pharma using the proprietary Lauriad drug delivery technology. It contains miconazole, an azole antifungal agent that inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol in fungal cell membranes by targeting lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase. This formulation is specifically designed for the treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis (oral thrush), particularly in immunocompromised patients such as those with HIV or head and neck cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy. The bioadhesive technology allows for once-daily buccal administration, providing local delivery to the mouth and oropharynx with a significantly lower dose compared to traditional topical gels while maintaining efficacy comparable to systemic therapies. It is marketed under the brand names Loramyc in Europe and Oravig in the United States.
