Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Miconazole nitrate + betamethasone valerate is a topical fixed-dose combination medication used to treat inflammatory skin conditions complicated by fungal infections. It consists of **miconazole nitrate**, a broad-spectrum imidazole antifungal agent, and **betamethasone valerate**, a potent synthetic corticosteroid. Miconazole works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, and also exhibits some antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. Betamethasone valerate provides rapid relief from inflammation, redness, and itching by suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators and inducing vasoconstriction. This combination is particularly effective for dermatoses such as infected eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and intertrigo where both an inflammatory and a fungal component are present.
