Miconazole nitrate + domiphen bromide is a fixed-dose combination of two agents developed as a vaginal cream for the treatment of severe and recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (rVVC). Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, disrupting ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell membranes. Domiphen bromide is a quaternary ammonium compound with antiseptic properties that potentiates the antifungal activity of miconazole by enhancing its efficacy against Candida biofilms. The combination demonstrates synergistic fungicidal activity against both susceptible and azole-resistant Candida species and has shown significant reduction in viable biofilm cells in preclinical studies. It is being developed primarily for women suffering from chronic or recurrent yeast infections[1][2][4][5][7].
