Overview

Microgynon + empagliflozin is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used concomitantly. Microgynon is an oral contraceptive containing ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel, which act as synthetic estrogen and progestogen, respectively, to inhibit ovulation and prevent pregnancy. Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus; it lowers blood glucose by promoting urinary glucose excretion via inhibition of renal SGLT2. Clinical studies have shown that co-administration of these drugs does not result in clinically significant pharmacokinetic interactions, and both are well tolerated when used together[1][5][6].
