Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Microtransplantation (MST) is an innovative cellular immunotherapy protocol developed by researchers at the Affiliated Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Military Medical Sciences (307th Hospital of the PLA). It involves the infusion of HLA-mismatched donor peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) into patients—particularly elderly individuals with acute myeloid leukemia (AML)—following standard induction or consolidation chemotherapy. Unlike traditional allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), microtransplantation does not require the use of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis and does not aim for full donor chimerism. Instead, it leverages a transient graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect to eliminate residual disease while donor cells provide hematopoietic support to shorten the period of post-chemotherapy neutropenia. This approach aims to improve survival outcomes and remission rates in patients who are otherwise ineligible for intensive transplantation due to age or comorbidities.
