Overview

Midodrine + octreotide is a combination therapy used primarily in the management of hepatorenal syndrome (HRS), particularly types 1 and 2. Midodrine is an alpha-1 adrenergic agonist that increases systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure, while octreotide is a somatostatin analogue that suppresses splanchnic vasodilation. Together, they are often administered with albumin to improve renal perfusion and function in patients with advanced liver disease[1][2][4]. This combination has been shown to improve short-term survival and renal function in HRS patients, serving as a bridge to liver transplantation or preventing progression of HRS type 2 to HRS type 1[1][2].
