Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Milk basic protein (MBP) is a bioactive protein fraction derived from bovine milk, consisting of several basic proteins such as lactoferrin and lactoperoxidase. When combined with calcium, it acts as a synergistic nutraceutical for bone health. MBP promotes bone formation by stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts and suppresses bone resorption by inhibiting the activity and formation of osteoclasts. Calcium provides the essential mineral substrate for the formation of hydroxyapatite, the primary structural component of the bone matrix. This combination is widely used in functional foods and dietary supplements to increase bone mineral density and prevent age-related bone loss, particularly in postmenopausal women and individuals at risk for osteoporosis.
